Five men in khaki ‘threaten’ local resident with implication in drug case; two at large Amritsar, June 7 Five cops deputed with the anti-narcotic cell of the Amritsar rural police have been accused of kidnapping a youth and forcing him to cough up Rs 1.35 lakh while threatening to implicate him in a drug case. Later, victim Jagjit Singh approached senior police officials who rushed teams to nab the accused cops, including an ASI-rank officer, identified as Narinderpal Singh. He, along with four other cops — Head Constables Palwinder Singh and Kanwaljit Singh, Constables Pargat Singh and Kanwarpal Singh — has been booked. Barring Palwinder and Kanwarpal Singh, the accused have been arrested. A case under Sections 341, 365, 384, 34 of the IPC and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him. Amritsar (Rural) SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal said the complainant, along with his son, was going on his scooter when two bikers intercepted him near Lord Shani Temple in Chawinda Devi. Immediately, ASI Narinderpal Singh turned up in an i20 car. They bundled him into the car and took him towards Rayya. Two persons came in another car and threatened him with implication in a false drug case while demanding Rs 2 lakh. The victim called his brother Harjit Singh who brought Rs 1.20 lakh. He also gave Rs 15,000 to him following which the accused allowed him to leave. The SSP said that during the probe it was found that ASI Narinderpal, posted in the anti-narcotic wing, was deputed in Beas along with other accused. “Raids are on to nab the remaining cops while placing all of them under suspension with immediate effect. We don’t need such cops who bring bad repute to the department. I will recommend their dismissal to higher-ups,” he added.
