ASI caught taking Rs 5,000 as bribe

Tribune News ServiceAmritsar, June 11Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector, Surinder Kumar, posted at Bhikhiwind police station in Tarn Taran for allegedly seeking bribe for preparing a challan in connection with a fraud case. He was caught red-handed in presence of government witnesses while accepting Rs 5,000 for the same. The complainant had stated that the accused had been demanding Rs 5,000 as bribe. Following this, a trap was laid and ASI Surinder Kumar was nabbed red-handed. A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him and further investigation was under way.
