Amritsar, June 20 The police have arrested two persons for allegedly trying to extort money from a jeweller, identified as Deepak Jaura. Those arrested were identified as Inderjit Singh of Patti Bhara and Akashdeep Singh of Guru Nagar in Verka. One of them posed as notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and demanded Rs 10 lakh from the victim. A case under Sections 384 and 506 of the IPC has been registered against the accused. Jaura informed the police that he has a jewellery shop — Bharawan Di Hatti. He said five days ago he received a call from someone who introduced himself as Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. He threatened to kill him and his father, who is currently admitted to a hospital, in case he informed anyone about him. He demanded Rs 10 lakh. Initially, he got afraid and did not tell anyone about it. Later, his father-in-law Baljit Singh of Bhikhwind in Tarn Taran came to him and he confided his concern to him. Later, they decided to lodge a complaint with the police. ADCP Jagjit Singh Walia said the accused had procured a new SIM for making the extortion call. — TNS
