High profile burglary cracked; four held, Rs 28 lakh recovered

At a press conference here on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police SS Srivastava said four persons were arrested and a recovery of items worth Rs 1,04,81,000 was made. The police have identified eight persons as accused in the case. The arrested persons include Anmol of Tungbala, Aniket, aka Bholu, of Gali Gopal Palace, Albert road, Heera Singh and Harvinder Singh of Fatahpur village. The commissioner said the remaining accused would be arrested shortly. The burglary is considered to be one of the biggest crimes in the history of the city in terms of cash.

Maid, her kin accused of theft at pvt school principal’s house Amritsar, July 16 A week after the high profile burglary took place at the residence of a private school principal, the police have managed to crack the case, arresting four persons and recovering two gold bricks, weighing a kg each, Rs 28 in cash and other gold jewellery items weighing 227 grams. The victim, Sudha Bhandari, a resident of the court road, had reported the loss of Rs 1.5 crore in cash, five gold bricks (one kg each) and huge quantity of other gold jewellery items after which a case was registered by the Civil Lines police on July 8. At a press conference here on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police SS Srivastava said four persons were arrested and a recovery of items worth Rs 1,04,81,000 was made. Lauding the role of the local police, the commissioner said the main accused was Anmol, aka Chand, whose paternal aunt (bhua) Charanjit Kaur worked as a maid at Bhandari’s house. Srivastava said, “We had been suspecting the role of an insider. Later, we established that Chand shared the information about the fortune at the house with his friends who later planned the burglary.” Sudha Bhandari had reported the theft to the police after she came back from her foreign visit. The police have identified eight persons as accused in the case. Four have been arrested. The arrested persons include Anmol of Tungbala, Aniket, aka Bholu, of Gali Gopal Palace, Albert road, Heera Singh and Harvinder Singh of Fatahpur village. The other accused include Charanjit Kaur, Abhishek and Sonu. The commissioner said the remaining accused would be arrested shortly. The burglary is considered to be one of the biggest crimes in the history of the city in terms of cash.
