Man defrauded of Rs 76,000

The fraudsters contacted the complainant, Vijay Kumar of Dream City, to inform that they were from a reputed online shopping platform and that his mobile number had been selected for a free SUV. A case against them has been registered at the Chattiwind police station after investigation by the state cyber crime cell. The complainant, Vijay Kumar, a resident of Dream City, informed the police that he had paid Rs 73,600 on different occasions to different bank accounts. Officials at the Chattiwind police station said a case under Sections 420 and 120B of the IPC was registered against four persons.

Amritsar, July 16 A local resident has been lured by fraudsters into submitting Rs 73,600 into their bank account. The fraudsters contacted the complainant, Vijay Kumar of Dream City, to inform that they were from a reputed online shopping platform and that his mobile number had been selected for a free SUV. Vijay was asked to pay the money as mandatory processing charges for the delivery of the SUV. Once the victim fell into their trap, he ended paying more and more hoping that his loss would be compensated with the arrival of the vehicle. The fraudsters include Rakesh Kumar of Bhilwara, Rajasthan, Raj Kumar of Kanpur and their two accomplices. A case against them has been registered at the Chattiwind police station after investigation by the state cyber crime cell. The complainant, Vijay Kumar, a resident of Dream City, informed the police that he had paid Rs 73,600 on different occasions to different bank accounts. Kumar said that his misadventure started when he received a phone call on January 11 this year. The caller claimed that he was speaking on behalf of a known online shopping site. The fraudsters lured the victim by stating that he had won a Safari Storme vehicle in a lottery for randomly selected phone numbers. The complainant stated that he got suspicious when the accused continued to delay the delivery of the vehicle and demanded money on one or more pretext. Later, when he filed the complaint with the police, it was investigated by the state cyber crime cell. Officials at the Chattiwind police station said a case under Sections 420 and 120B of the IPC was registered against four persons. The police are yet to make a arrest in the case.
