500 honoured at GNDU event

Tribune News ServiceAmritsar, August 17The 49th annual sports prize distribution function for 2018-19 of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) was held on Saturday. Jaspal Singh, president, Guru Nanak Dev University Sports Committee (Men) & Principal of Guru Nanak College, Nakodar, welcomed the guests. All students should participate in sports activities.”In the function, 30 international players and 500 inter-university players among others were honoured. In men section, Layallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, lifted the GNDU Inter-College A Division Overall General Championship Trophy with 10,800 points. In women section, BBK DAV College for Women lifted the GNDU Inter-College A Division Overall General Championship Trophy with 10,000 points.

Amritsar, August 17 The 49th annual sports prize distribution function for 2018-19 of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) was held on Saturday. The university honored its 500 players who brought laurels in various sports disciplines at international and all-India inter-university levels with cash prizes worth Rs 1.40 crore and trophies. Radhey Shyam Julaniya, Sports Secretary, Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, was the chief guest. Vice-Chancellor Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Dean Academic Affairs SS Behl, Registrar KS Kahlon and other officials and coaches were present. Sports Director Sukhdev Singh read out the annual sports achievements report. Jaspal Singh, president, Guru Nanak Dev University Sports Committee (Men) & Principal of Guru Nanak College, Nakodar, welcomed the guests. Harbinder Kaur, president, GNDU Sports Committee (Women) and Principal of Shahzada Nand College, presented vote of thanks. Radhey Shyam stressed on importance of sports. “We are lagging behind in the field of education and sports as compared to developed countries as most of the medal winners from developed countries are highly qualified sports personnel. So institutes of higher learning and the government should make collective efforts in this direction,” he said. Prof Sandhu said, “Sports should be encouraged for the overall development of our young generation.
