12 booked for firing at jewellery shop

Tribune News ServiceAmritsar, August 18The police have booked four persons in the Saturday’s firing incident in which several armed persons had barged into a goldsmith shop and allegedly took away around 30 gm of gold. Ealier, it was alleged that the accused took away around 1.5 kg of gold ornaments. Among those booked were identified as Shelly, Shamelly, Baljit Singh, Bittu Bomb, Sonu Joura, Sonu Bala, all residents of Sultanwind Road and six unknown persons. Complainant Ranjit Singh said at around 3.30 pm the accused equipped with firearms entered his shop and started quarrelling with him. He alleged the accused took away 30 gm of gold from his shop.

Ealier, it was alleged that the accused took away around 1.5 kg of gold ornaments. Among those booked were identified as Shelly, Shamelly, Baljit Singh, Bittu Bomb, Sonu Joura, Sonu Bala, all residents of Sultanwind Road and six unknown persons. They were booked for criminal trespass, act of endangering life and personal safety of others and arms act. No arrest has been made till now as the accused were on the run. Complainant Ranjit Singh said at around 3.30 pm the accused equipped with firearms entered his shop and started quarrelling with him. He alleged Sonu Joura pointed a pistol at his son Jaspreet Singh. As he tried to rescue his son, Shelly fired gunshots at him. Ranjit Singh said he saved himself by sitting on the ground and the fire hit the glass of the door. He said then he fired a couple of shots in self-defense. He alleged the accused took away 30 gm of gold from his shop. The police authorities said that a monetary dispute between two groups was the reason behind the incident. They said further investigations were underway while raids were on to nab the suspects. JS Walia, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, said nobody was allowed to take law into his hands. He said the accused would be arrested soon.
