Amritsar, August 18 Waterlogging after the recent rain has damaged several roads in the city. Potholes have emerged on these roads and rainwater accumulated in these potholes may further lead to accidents. Despite tall claims, the Municipal Corporation has failed to do patch work on a majority of the roads that have been damaged in the past few years. Commuter witnessed bumpy rides on Majitha Road due to potholes. Apart from this, inner roads are also in a poor condition. Ravi Sharma, a resident, said, “Not a single road is free from the potholes. Now all the potholes from SSSS Chowk to Guru Nanak Hospital are filled with the water. The two wheelers often skid on such roads. The MC should look after these issues.” Kuljit Singh, another resident, said: “ The roads, which were recarpeted a few years back have been damaged again. No quality check is conducted by the MC. The government agency or contractor should be answerable for damage of newly-recarpeted roads”. The Mayor, Karamajit Singh Rintu, stated that they were committed to providing good roads and smooth ride to commuters. The civic body had recently signed an agreement with a UK-based company to get advanced machines for the patchwork.
