School playground turns into a dumping ground

A section of the village residents dump their house wastage, including animals waste, in the school ground, which has resulted in the chocking of the drain. The residents have broken four walls of the school from many points to dispose of their waste. The schoolteachers have requested the residents not to throw waste in the school, but has yielded no results. He trains youths at Seva Devi SD College, Tarn Taran, from 5 pm to 7.30 pm daily, at no cost.

It has also led to the growth of elephant grass and other weeds. A section of the village residents dump their house wastage, including animals waste, in the school ground, which has resulted in the chocking of the drain. As a result the school building has developed cracks. The residents have broken four walls of the school from many points to dispose of their waste. The schoolteachers have requested the residents not to throw waste in the school, but has yielded no results. The growth of weeds has given shelter to reptiles like snacks etc. There are about 200 students in the school. Manjinder Singh, head teacher of the school, said, the earlier school head teacher Manjit Kaur on August 23, 2011 wrote a letter to the then Deputy Commissioner to resolve the matter as the school building was under threat and any untoward incident may take place. Manjinder Singh said he too had written several letters to the village sarpanch, concerned Block Elementary Education Officer, Block Development and Panchayat Officer, District Development and Panchayat Officer, and Deputy Commissioner (DC) but no one has come forwards to redress the genuine grievance till date. Satnam Singh, sarpanch of the village, said a grant of Rs 3 lakh was pending with the village panchayat and there was a proposal for spending the grant to renovate the street, and waste water of the area would be diverted to the village pond through a cemented pipe Social activists honoured on I-Day On Independence Day social workers Amandeep Kaur and Karam Singh were honoured for their selfless service to the society. Amandeep Kaur is associated with ‘Smarapan’, a society for development of mentally disabled. She was honoured by Captain Amarinder Singh at the state-level function held in Jalandhar. Karam Singh (60), a lecturer at Government Senior Secondary School, Bath, was honoured by the Tarn Taran district administration at the Independence Day function for his selfless service against drug menace. Karam Singh is training youths, who want to join defence forces, for the last 15 years. Karam Singh claimed that his 117 trainees had got selected in the military and other paramilitary services. He trains youths at Seva Devi SD College, Tarn Taran, from 5 pm to 7.30 pm daily, at no cost.
