Say they have been allocated schools located in far-flung areas Strap: says SCERT allocated schools located in far-flung area Amritsar, September 3 Members of the Punjab Student Union (Lalkaar) on Tuesday protested against the teaching assignment of BEd students as a part of their practical training. They said students had been allocated schools located at distant places. The representatives also submitted a memorandum to ADC Himanshu Aggarwal. Students have been allotted government schools for their 16-week training. Most of these institutions are located at distant places from the city, they said. Ravinder, a PSU leader, said: “Some students have been alloted schools which are 100 km away from their place. To some places, there are no buses. The department is trying to compensate for the lack of teaching staff in their schools with students.” Kushal Nagpal, a student, said: “Earlier, the colleges would allocate institutions but this time, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has taken over the job. It takes at least 1.5 hour to reach my school. Traveling is not only mentally tiring, but costly as well as I have to bear all expenses. The decision must be revised.” The union will hold a protest on September 5 and gherao the residence of School Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla.
