PK Jaiswar Amritsar, September 6 The police have arrested notorious gangster, Angrej Singh, involved in murder and dacoity cases. He was a member of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang and wanted by the Punjab police in around two murder cases and as many murder bid, besides five bank dacoity cases registered against him. He was nabbed from Tarn Taran following a four-hour operation which was carried out by around 50 cops headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, (Investigation) Palwinder Singh. The police recovered three weapons besides bullets from his possession. The police also seized a .45 bore pistol with 24 cartridges and two pistols of 9mm with 20 bullets from his possession. Terming it a major success, Police Commissioner SS Srivastva said here on Friday that with his arrest, majority members of infamous Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang were behind bars. He said that investigations and raids were on to nab his remaining accomplices who were evading arrest since long. Earlier, the Punjab police had arrested Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Amanpreet Singh Rinka, Shubham Singh, Bobby Malhotra, Bhupinder Singh alias Sonu Kangla and Navneet Singh Shera. One of their accomplices Rajat Malhotra, alias Karan Masti, was murdered in November last year while Ravi Balachaur, Harwinder Singh, alias Mony, Arun Kumar alias Chhurimar were still at large. The Police Commissioner said Angrej was involved in two murders, including of Congress councillor Gurdeep Pehalwan, in June and Billa Kot Khalsa in December last year. He had two attempt to murders, five cases of bank robberies at July (Hoshiarpur), August (Tarn Taran) and December (Tarsikka in Amritsar) 2018, four cases of firing and two cases of carjacking against him. Following a specific input, a joint raid of Special Weapon and Tactics, Anti Goonda Staff and CIA staff was conducted at the designated place. The team was led by ACP Palwinder Singh. On the spot the police confiscated .45 bore pistol and later his interrogation led to the seizure of remaining two weapons. Srivastva said the accused was produced in a court on Friday, which remanded him to police custody.
