Work started in 2016, road still a dream for villagers

The work of this road was started in December 2016 but till date, no significant development has been witnessed. The SDO said the shortage of funds and the slow speed of axing of trees along the road were the two main issues hindering the completion of work. The residents of Lauhuka village were the worst hit as the village was situated quite near to the road. The SDO said funds would be released soon and the 1,700-metre-long road passing from the Lauhuka village would be given priority.

TARN TARAN DIARY There has been no respite in sight for the residents of villages like Rasulpur, Piddi, Shahabpur, Dyel, Jandoke, Sarhali Khurd, Sakhira, Jaura, Lauhuka, Nathuchak and Kairon as the completion of Tarn Taran-Patti road has not been expedited. The work of this road was started in December 2016 but till date, no significant development has been witnessed. The road linking Rajasthan through newly-built Sabhra bridge has gained more importance in the past. Dyal Sharma, SDO, Punjab PWD said the road had been widened from 23 to 33 feet under the Center Road Fund. The Union Government had sanctioned Rs 23 crore for the project. The SDO said the shortage of funds and the slow speed of axing of trees along the road were the two main issues hindering the completion of work. He said 1,659 trees were to be axed when only 60 per cent trees had been cut and a mere one-third of the funds have been released till date. The 18-km long road has been been lying in a dilapidated state. The residents of Lauhuka village were the worst hit as the village was situated quite near to the road. The SDO said the Punjab State Forest Corporation released tenders thrice under the set norms for axing trees on the road sides, but no party came forward to get the bid. Now the corporation has started axing the trees itself. The SDO said funds would be released soon and the 1,700-metre-long road passing from the Lauhuka village would be given priority. Free drug supply a cause for concern Gurbhej Singh, a former Sarpanch, of Plasaur Kalan village, merely six kilometers from Tarn Taran town, has alleged that drugs were being sold freely in his native village. He assured the police to accompany them to nab the peddlers. He said the police, a few days back, nabbed one of the international-level drug smuggler but was shown that a few number of intoxicant tablets were recovered from his possession. After getting bail, he restarted his work in the village. The higher police officials failed to respond to Gurbhej Singh former Sarapanch when he sent an SMS served on their WhatsApp number. The fervour was aroused in the functions organised in the different educational institutions of the area on the 'Hindi Day'. The institutions such as Pinelands International Convent School Gaggobua, Mata Sahib kaur Modern School Bharowal, Dashmesh Privar International School Aima Kalan, Guru Nanak Dev Academy Noordi, Guru Nanak Public Senior Secondary School Goindwal Sahib and others participated in the celebrations.
