College teachers protest against DAV management

All three DAV Colleges in the city, BBK DAV College for Women, DAV College of Education and DAV College, participated in the protest held in response to a call given by the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) . District president of the union Dr BB Yadav said around 100 teachers had been waiting for their promotion under career advancement scheme for the past two years. The last meeting in this regard was held between PCCTU office-bearers and principals of DAV Colleges at DAV College, Jalandhar, on August 12. ”added YadavPresident of the local unit of PCCTU Dr Gurdas Singh Sekhon criticised the autocratic behavior of the DCMC.

All three DAV Colleges in the city, BBK DAV College for Women, DAV College of Education and DAV College, participated in the protest held in response to a call given by the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) . The protesting teachers said they would wear black badges for two days but if the management failed to solve the issue by then, the agitation would be intensify from October 23. District president of the union Dr BB Yadav said around 100 teachers had been waiting for their promotion under career advancement scheme for the past two years. The management had been delaying the implementation of the scheme, he said. “The organisation has urged the management to implement the scheme many a time. The last meeting in this regard was held between PCCTU office-bearers and principals of DAV Colleges at DAV College, Jalandhar, on August 12. It was decided that the whole matter would be resolved within the two months, that is, before October 12, but the failure of the management to do so has compelled the organisation to launch the agitation with effect from October 21. We gave a week time to resolve the issue but no response from has been received from the management so far. ”added Yadav President of the local unit of PCCTU Dr Gurdas Singh Sekhon criticised the autocratic behavior of the DCMC. He said the teachers did not want to spoil the peaceful academic atmosphere of the institutions but the management was not interested in resolving their concerns and thus, they were forced to protest. Among those present included Prof Neeraj Gupta, Prof Sanjeev Dutta, Rajesh Mittu, Dr Daizy Sharma, Dr Parveen Kumari and others.
