Kirtan darbar depicting Guru Nanak’s philosophy organised

He said this while addressing a huge gathering of devotees at historic Khalsa College during international kirtan darbar, organised by Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC). The 100-member group of students from various educational institutions also recited the hymns and bani in praise of Guru Nanak. He said leaders from across the political spectrum, heads of various institutions, educationists, intellectuals, management members, staff and students of all the Khalsa institutions took part in this programme. Political leaders OP Soni, Shwait Malik, Reena Jaitley, Inderjit Kaur, Bikram Singh Majithia, Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill, Shivdullar Singh Dhillon, Baba Harnam Singh , Amarbir Singh Dhot, Rajinder Singh Mehta, Tarsem Singh were among the prominent present.

He said Nanak’s message of humanity, universal brotherhood and peace need propagation in every corner of the world. He said this while addressing a huge gathering of devotees at historic Khalsa College during international kirtan darbar, organised by Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC). People from all walks of life converged here for the kirtan at the picturesque campus, which was tastefully decorated for the occasion. Jathedar called upon the Sikhs to stay united and fight social evils, including discrimination, female foeticide, drugs and oppression of any kind. “Nanak called for an egalitarian society based on justice and truth”, he said. The ragis who had gathered from across region earlier recited the hymns belonging to Guru’s `Bani’ and enthralled the devotees with their devotional and melodious narrations. KCGC president Satyajit Singh Majithia, vice-president Swinder Singh Kathunangal, secretary RMS Chhina, earlier welcomed the guests, including jathedars of various Sikh Takhts, including Giani Raghbir Singh and Giani Kulwant Singh, SGPC chief Gobind Singh Longowal and others. The kirtan darbar began with the recitals by Bhai Gagandeep Singh (Ganganagar) followed by Harjot Singh Jakhmi (Jalandhar). The 100-member group of students from various educational institutions also recited the hymns and bani in praise of Guru Nanak. The college’s historic building was meticulously decked-up with flowers and buntings as the huge gathering of 10,000 persons thronged the campus for the religious programme which was dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. “This is our small contribution to spread the message of Guru and we are happy that large number people have gathered here”, said Majithia. He said leaders from across the political spectrum, heads of various institutions, educationists, intellectuals, management members, staff and students of all the Khalsa institutions took part in this programme. “The 127-year- old college is testimony to the Sikhs and Punjab’s glorious history and culture and had been at the forefront to play its pivotal role in the dissemination of education and Guru’s preaching for the welfare of mankind”, said Principal KCA Dr Mehal Singh, adding that Guru’s philosophy and teachings needed to be spread across the mankind to save the world from the evils which are setting in.
