Tribune New Service Amritsar, November 7 Hailstorm and heavy downpour marked the onset of winters in city as rainfall continued all day long. Thursday morning began with grey skies and by afternoon, heavy rain with hailstorm lashed throughout the city. The multimedia exhibition being organised from November 7 to 12 by the Regional Outreach Bureau Chandigarh, Bureau of Outreach and Communication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India, in collaboration with the district administration, too, got deferred in afternoon due to the heavy rainfall. The multimedia exhibition is being held to mark the celebrations of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and had cultural activities lined up for evening session. “We were supposed have a gatka performance, along with a play by noted theatre person Anita Devgan, and several multimedia activities, including a light and sound show. Due to heavy rainfall this afternoon, we have deferred the programme until further notice,” informed Rekha Mahajan, deputy DEO and nodal officer for the multimedia exhibition. The morning session of the exhibition saw schools and colleges visiting the show, including an art exhibition of 35 paintings inspired by teachings and life of Guru Nanak Dev. Works by 10 artists from the city were featured in the exhibition. A book exhibition on rare spiritual literature was also held by the District Library, in collaboration with Guru Nanak Dev University. “The exhibition will continue till Nov 12 and will hold many cultural and educational activities. The purpose is to engage children in learning the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev and getting to know him through inspired works,” said Rekha Mahajan. A stall of handicrafts made by inmates of Pingalwara was also displayed at the exhibition.
