Now, Karin has decided to clean the garden twice a day to encourage people to keep the historic garden clean. Even city residents, including a councilor, joined her and collected garbage from the garden. Karin is a native of Texas and came to her in-laws at Guru Nanak Avenue a day before Diwali. Karin and her sister-in-law visited the Company garden and found garbage scattered everywhere. Plastic bags, bottles, thermocol plates and packets were found lying in the park. Karin started cleaning the garden. A few people noticed her. Next day, she along with her husband Puneet Mahajan and his local friends conducted cleanliness drive at Company Garden. Several others joined them. Karin stated that she had visited the Company garden four years back. The situation was much better then. She said would leave the city on Monday but wanted to take memories of neat and clean garden with her. She also shared her visits to gardens of developed countries. Karin said residents could change the face of garden with their efforts. Shailinder Singh Shelly, Ward No. 46 councillor, said: “During a morning walk on Wednesday, I found that a lady was picking plastic waste from parks. Next day, I joined with my team. It is shameful for us to litter but not clean the place. We are thankful to Karin for her efforts. I will raise the issue regarding maintenance of the garden with the Mayor and MC officials.”— TNS
