Hit by speeding car, biker dies

IN BRIEFAmritsar: A biker died in a road mishap after being hit by a speeding car near Dhariwal village here on Saturday evening. He said when they reached near Dhariwal village, a car from the Harsha Chhina village side came at a high speed and hit his brother’s motorcycle. Balwider died on the spot death while the driver of the car fled the scene. A case under Sections 304-A and 279, 427 of the IPC was registered against the driver. The police said investigation was on to identify the car and its driver.

IN BRIEF Amritsar: A biker died in a road mishap after being hit by a speeding car near Dhariwal village here on Saturday evening. The police have registered a case against an unidentified person. The deceased has been identified as Balwinder Singh (46), a resident of Bhullar village. Deceased’s brother Harjinder Singh told the police that he, along with his brother, was going towards Rajasansi from Uthian village on separate bikes. He said when they reached near Dhariwal village, a car from the Harsha Chhina village side came at a high speed and hit his brother’s motorcycle. Balwider died on the spot death while the driver of the car fled the scene. A case under Sections 304-A and 279, 427 of the IPC was registered against the driver. The police said investigation was on to identify the car and its driver. TNS Cellphone seized from jail inmate Amritsar: A mobile phone was recovered from an inmate inside the Amritsar Central Jail here on Saturday. The inmate has been identified as Jagroshan Singh of Kaler village that comes under the Sarhali police station in Tarn Taran. According to information, the jail staff found an Oppo smartphone with a SIM from his barrack during a checking. A case under Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prisons Act has been registered against him. The police said Jagroshan would be brought on production warrant to ascertain how he managed to sneak in the mobile phone. Chautala appreciated the efforts of India and Pakistan in opening the Kartarpur corridor. However, he refrained from speaking over the river water row between Haryana and Punjab. However, he held a brief meeting with Akal Takht’s officiating jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh in the presence of Giani Raghbir Singh, jathedar of Takht Kesgarh Sahib.
