Citizens’ Forum protests rising rape cases

Tribune News ServiceAmritsar, December 8Citizens’ Forum, a local organisation of like-minded educationists, doctors, advocates, farmers and women activists staged a protest against the recent rape incidents in Telangana and Unnao. The speakers also criticised the BJP stating that while Chinmayanand, former Union Minister is roaming free, the law student who accused him of rape is lying in jail. They also said the BJP was trying to help its lawmaker Kuldeep Senger. The activists alleged that even at the time of Kathua rape incident, many BJP leaders openly supported rapists and tried to influence law enforcing agencies. The gathering was addressed by former leader of bank employees Harwinder Singh, women activist Kawaljit Kaur, Prof Parminder Singh, Bibi Rajinder Kaur, Rattan Singh Randhawa, Jarmanjit Bath and others.

The activists also took out a candle march here. The protestors alleged that incidents of violence, including rapes, in the country have increased in the recent times as anti-social elements often are emboldened by the political patronage they receive from elected representatives. The speakers also criticised the BJP stating that while Chinmayanand, former Union Minister is roaming free, the law student who accused him of rape is lying in jail. They also said the BJP was trying to help its lawmaker Kuldeep Senger. The activists alleged that even at the time of Kathua rape incident, many BJP leaders openly supported rapists and tried to influence law enforcing agencies.
