Amritsar, December 10The city railway station is all set to draw solar power from next year as work to install required paraphernalia is under way on the rooftops of station buildings. Railway officials, associated with the project, stated that the project was in line with the Union Government’s announced plan to generate 100 GW of solar capacity (including 40 GW from rooftop solar) by 2022. With estimated installation cost of Rs8 crore, one megawatt solar plant is commissioned at the local railway station. The project is being executed by a private company and in return, it will supply power to the Indian Railways at Rs3 per unit. The Railways will also not be at a loss as it is procuring power at over Rs7 per unit from PSPCL.— TNS
