Fire Service Day observed

Amritsar: Employees of Fire Brigade Department observed National Fire Service Day at Civil Lines fire office here on Wednesday. Lovepreet Singh Divisional Fire Officer said “While observing the day a 2-minute silence was observed in remembrance of our martyred firefighters. Awareness will be spread through mock drills at various places like schools colleges hospitals hotels factories and other public places.” The day is observed on April 14 every year to pay homage to the incredible commitment and sacrifice by 71 fire service personnel during a mishap in 1944 on this day. The building collapsed due to an explosion during a fire at a factory in Ludhiana on November 20 2017 in which 9 fire service firefighters were killed. The Safai Sewak Union led by Romesh Kumar Shergill remembered Dr Ambedkar and demanded better job avenues for weaker sections.
