Increasing number of of crime incidents by women in the district is a worrying trend. Recently a four-member gang of swindlers headed by an ASI of Tarn Taran CIA staff had raised an alarmin the district. The Vigilance Bureau (VB) had arrested the Assistant Sub-Inspector while taking a bribe of Rs 10000 from Mangal Singh a social worker. Three women associates of the accused were on the run. According to preliminary investigation the victim had approached gang member Raj Kaur Prabh and sought her support to resolve a property dispute with his neighbour. After receiving repeated calls from Raj Mangal went to her residence and the former forced him to hug her. The incident was recorded in a camera. Later Raj called Lakhwinder threatened to book Mangal under rape charges. The ASI who was accompanied with another woman demanded Rs1 lakh to settle the issue. The ASI snatched his purse which contained more than Rs8000 and also took his Aadhaar Card registration card of his motorcycle and other documents. It recalls repeated incidents of blackmailing by a 20-member gang led by Veera Sharma (55) of Tarn Taran who was arrested recently. The gang lured innocent persons into committing sexual activities at their house in Tarn Taran and then used recording of such clips to blackmail them. The other members of the gang were her husband Darshan Kumar who died a few months back two sons two daughters-in-law and a number of other persons. The gang members were allegedly involved in more than 10 cases of loot attempt to murder and other heinous crimes. On March 13 2021 Harjinder Singh from Ludhiana came to purchase their vehicle. By following the same activities they looted Rs6.45 lakh from him. Similarly Ludhiana Special Task Force had nabbed five persons including two women and recovered 1.20 kg of heroin from their possession. One of the women Jaswinder Kaur was a former SAD leader. Also women have been involved in illicit liquor manufacturing too. … Covid hero: Kid donates piggy bank Two-year-old Mahanveer donates his piggy bank to SSP Dhruman H Nimbale. A two-year-old boy Mahanveer son of Dr Brahamdeep Singh of Tarn Taran donated his piggy bank for the Prime Ministers Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund). He handed over his contribution to SSP Dhruman H Nimbale at his office. The officer while accepting the donation said everyone should come forward and do their bit to help the needy come over the crisis caused by the pandemic. Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh appreciated the childs move to donate for a cause. The DC said it was the time that people should unite and help each other in defeating the pandemic. He also called people to follow the government-issued guidelines to curb the raging virus. Dr Brahamdeep told the officials that as the impact of the virus is being discussed in every household these days one day Mahanveer got disturbed and decided to donate his savings for the cause to be of help to others in need. … Residents go green with Hariawal Lehar A volunteer of the Hariawal Lehar plants saplings in Tarn Taran. Some volunteers from the town had initiated a drive named Hariawal Lehar around three years back which is now joined by a number of locals and NRIs. The drive was initiated with an aim to make the town eco-friendly and pollution-free. The drive which started with about 25 members plants saplings on the roadsides and at various sites in the town. So far more than 10000 saplings had been planted in Tarn Taran and were also being watered. Most of the saplings had also been covered with tree guards. Initially the members used to spend money on their own but now a large number of people have come forward for the cause and support it financially too. Under the drive a fogging machine was also purchased for localities particularly slums to prevent spread of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria. Tejinderpal Singh and Bhupinder Singh from the drive said besides the bank of a drain Rohi in Tarn Taran several other points had been selected to make these localities green and clean.
