Amritsar May 10 The police have booked Sukhdev Singh alias Sukha of Bharariwal area on the charge of abatement to suicide after a man committed suicide allegedly after being harassed by him. The deceased was identified as Deepak Kumar a resident of Anngarh area. The victims wife Rajni told the police that on Sunday morning when she woke up she found her husband hanging from a wall in the bathroom. She alleged that harassment at the hands of Sukhdev Singh was the reason behind his taking the extreme step. The police have registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC against Sukhdev though no arrest has been made so far. Rajni stated that Deepak had borrowed money from Sukhdev Singh on interest. However he could not return the amount due to the Covid-induced lockdown restrictions. She said the accused mentally tortured and harassed him. Perturbed over this he hanged himself from a pipe near the bathroom. The police said further investigation was under progress while the accused had gone into hiding after the registration of an FIR. He would be arrested soon the police said. — TNS
