12kg heroin, Rs 19 lakh cash seized near border in Punjab`s Gurdaspur; two drug smugglers held

GURDASPUR/AMRITSAR: In a joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police apprehended two alleged drug smugglers and seized around 12 kg of heroin and Rs 19.3 lakh of drug money from their possession in Gurdaspur.According to a BSF spokesperson, the BSF troops stationed near Chaura Kalan village in Gurdaspur district detected an aerial intrusion originating from Pakistan on Sunday.Border Security Force (BSF) and local police launched a comprehensive search operation during which they spotted the movement of two suspicious persons moving in the area on a motorcycle.Both of them were arrested, and in a follow-up action the forces recovered 12kg heroin and Rs 19.3 lakh of drug money.Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav tweeted that drones were used to transport drugs from Pakistan, adding that an FIR was registered under the NDPS Act and police were investigating to establish backward and forward linkage of the drugs smugglers.Meanwhile, Yadav visited Amritsar on Sunday to review the security arrangements being made ahead of the scheduled 31st meeting of the North Zone Council being held in the holy city on September 26. Home Miniter Amit Shah is reported to chair the meeting ."Punjab police is fully geared up for ensuring safety and security at all big events in the state" Yadav tweeted.
