Germany-based mastermind has links with gangsters in Punjab PK Jaiswar Amritsar, April 22 Even as three persons arrested in connection with their links with terrorist groups based in Europe have been sent to judicial custody, police officials revealed that their Germany-based mastermind, Shaminder Singh alias Sherry, was also in contact with gangsters in Punjab. The Counter Intelligence (CI) had nabbed Palwinder Singh alias Ghodu of Batala, Sandeep Kumar alias Kaalu alias Shinda of Batala along with Jaswinder Kaur of Bal village in Batala and seized four pistols along with magazines and live cartridges from their possession. Their arrest was in continuation of the investigations being carried out in connection with the busting of a terrorist module by the CI last year. At that time, the police had arrested three persons for their alleged links with terrorist outfits in Germany. AIG, Counter Intelligence, Kuljit Singh said Jaswinder Kaur was the mother of Shaminder Singh alias Sherry, a Germany-based NRI who was providing weapons and funding to the new Sikh recruits in the militant outfits. They were yet to deliver the weapons. Sherry was in touch with other Belgium-based militant leaders including Jagdish Singh Bhoora who originally hailed from Ludhiana, he said. Sherry was earlier arrested by the police in connection with NDPS act and another case of quarrel. However, he was released by the court in a case under the NDPS Act. Later, he jumped bail and managed to go to Germany by preparing another passport by misleading the authorities. He got married to a German girl there and then came back and surrendered before the police in the pending criminal case. After securing his release, he again went back to Germany. Sherry came into contact with Sandeep Kumar when they were sent to Gurdaspur jail in 2008-09 after conviction. He developed contacts with local gangsters and criminal elements to carry out some criminal activity in future. Kuljit Singh said the militant module was tasked by the terrorist groups based in Europe to create political instability in Punjab by fanning communal passions through targeted killings of leaders and members of socio-religious organisations.
