Amritsar, April 22 The traffic on the busy Batala Road stretch was affected for around an hour as the kin of a patient admitted to a private hospital on the road blocked the stretch, alleging that the hospital staff had manhandled their family members. A relative of the patient, Sarwan Singh, said, “The dispute erupted when the family members of the patient expressed their inability to pay hospital bills. The family had not declined to make the payment, but had asked for time.” The family members of the patient stated that some persons, allegedly called by hospital doctors, thrashed them and threw them out of the hospital. Later, as the kin of the patient blocked the road, police officials had to intervene to get the road cleared. It was on the insistence of the police and commuters that the family lifted the blockade on the road. The police officials at the Vijay Nagar police post stated that the matter was later amicably resolved as both the parties reached a compromise.
