He said his concern was on ensuring uninterrupted flow of funds for development projects. “It was my moral duty to ensure that the proposed solid waste management plant be shifted out of the city,” he said. Setting up of the plant at Bhagtanwala had become a bone of contention between Bolaria and the SAD. He said Capt Amarinder Singh was meeting business tycoons and industrialists to devise ways for generation of employment opportunities in the state. It is high time to find alternate sources of meeting rising water requirements,” he added.

POLL PROMISES ONE MONTH LATER Neeraj Bagga Amritsar, April 22 The state government, led by Capt Amarinder Singh, has announced the shifting of the proposed site for setting up a solid waste management plant from the urban areas of the state. According to Inderbir Singh Bolaria, MLA, Amritsar South, “It was the biggest demand of the residents of the Amritsar South constituency, which was met at the government level without any delay.” Besides, the police department has been depoliticised, he claims. Setting up of the plant at Bhagtanwala had become a bone of contention between Bolaria and the SAD. As an SAD rebel, he had to resign from the membership of the Vidhan Sabha on October 10 last year. “It was my moral duty to ensure that the proposed solid waste management plant be shifted out of the city,” he said. Commenting on drug addicts in the constituency, he said the menace had its genesis in unemployment and lack of positive engagement among youth. He said Capt Amarinder Singh was meeting business tycoons and industrialists to devise ways for generation of employment opportunities in the state. Once these positive steps are introduced, the youngsters will be conveniently weaned away from addiction, says. According to the MLA, he has been overlooking the work of installing sewerage in Sultanwind village which falls in his constituency. It will take about one year to complete the project as its area is much larger. It has over 30,000 electorates. He said his concern was on ensuring uninterrupted flow of funds for development projects. Subsequently, a concrete road would also be constructed over it. “The police in my constituency have been depoliticised fully. Henceforth, the police can not shirk its responsibility by citing political interference as reason. They have to deliver,” Bolaria said. He said the Chief Minister, at a meeting in Chandigarh, asked officials to find ways to harness water from the Upper Barri Doab Canal (UBDC) to provide potable water to residents. Bolaria says he will put forth his suggestion of setting up an artificial lake on around 200 acres and then draining out waste water from the walled city into it. “The same water after purifying can be re-supplied to households. Firstly, there is a dearth of open space to install tubewells. In case, they get the same, its life span is short as water table goes down rapidly. It is high time to find alternate sources of meeting rising water requirements,” he added.
