Buildings of police stations, posts in a shambles

During a random visit to more than 10 police stations and posts, it has come to light that a large number of posts are either constructed on encroached land or any other government department’s building. Most of the police stations and posts do not have their offices and have been running from temporary sheds that are in pathetic conditions. However, senior police officials claim that the posts were constructed for public’s convenience so they can approach the police easily. During a random visit to more than 10 police stations and posts, it has come to light that a large number of posts are either constructed on encroached land or any other government department’s building. However, senior police officials claim that the posts were constructed for public’s convenience so they can approach the police easily. Most of the police stations and posts do not have their offices and have been running from temporary sheds that are in pathetic conditions. The building of Nehru Yuva Kendra where the Civil Lines Police Station has been running is in a deplorable condition. The Sadar Police Station has been functioning at the residence meant for the Medical Superintendent. Moreover, the building of Blood Bank near the Civil Hospital is also occupied by the police. Several other police stations don’t have proper buildings. The police have encroached upon parks, footpaths, roads and even land of nullahs to construct police posts. The police posts in the Fatehgarh Churian Road area, Mahal, Gumtala, Viajy Nagar, Majitha Road bypass area, Annagarh, and Ciricut House are in a pitiable condition. The post at Ranjit Avenue is constructed on a footpath. The Majitha Road post has encroached on a road. Richa Agnihotri, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Headquarter, said, “We have been conducting a survey for the buildings of the police department. A report will be sent to the state government for proper infrastructure. Police posts are made for public’s convenience. The cops work in tough conditions to serve the public.”
