Theft incidents on the rise as police fail to check crime

Though police officials claim to have taken various measures to nab the thieves or criminals, they have failed to check the crime in the city. Ironically, a majority of incidents are yet to be solved as the police are groping in the dark. They had escaped with cash to the tune of Rs 4.5 lakh from his car. The city has witnessed an increase in snatching incidents. In most of these cases, women and traders were targeted by the miscreants.

Though police officials claim to have taken various measures to nab the thieves or criminals, they have failed to check the crime in the city. The city has witnessed an increase in snatching incidents. In most of these cases, women and traders were targeted by the miscreants. Ironically, a majority of incidents are yet to be solved as the police are groping in the dark. Recently, a petrol pump manager, Inder Sharma, was shot dead by robbers in the Manawala area. They had escaped with cash to the tune of Rs 4.5 lakh from his car. Sharma was returning to Amritsar after taking collection from the petrol pump at Manawala. Although the Amritsar rural police claim to have some vital clues in the case, the accused were still on the run. Around two months ago, notorious gangster Gopi Ghanshampuria, along with his accomplices, kidnapped an Ajnala-based doctor, Dr Munish Sharma. They released the doctor after taking a ransom of Rs 7.50 lakh. After the incident, the police launched a manhunt to nab the accused and their accomplice Supreet Harry. However, they are still at large. The police are yet to make any breakthrough in a theft case in which four unidentified youths barged into a house and decamped with jewellery and cash worth Rs 14 lakh on July 7. The police said a case under Sections 458, 382 and 34 of the IPC and 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act had been registered against the unidentified persons. Police officials said investigations were on to nab the accused. Unabated snatchings incidents have left the residents in the sense of insecurity. Traders, returning home during at night after closing their shops, are proved to be an easy target for robbers. They do not even hesitate to attack them. The police point out that the patrolling had been enhanced while senior officials were directed to remain in the field. However, despite all efforts, the police did not get desire results. SSP Parampal Singh Gandhi, Amritsar rural police, said the intelligence and police informers had been on the task. “We have got some vital clues in these cases and hopefully, the culprits will be behind bars soon. The Punjab Police are committed to provide a safe and secure environment to the residents of Amritsar.” A senior police official said strict instructions had been passed to all police stations. They were asked to take adequate measures to arrest the miscreants and snatchers.
