3-day book exhibition opens at Dist Library

The three-day exhibition was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ravinder Singh. A collection of Hindi, English, Punjabi and Urdu books, besides some of the best literary works from the library’s own collection, are on display. “The purpose of the exhibition is to allow people an access to different genres of books we have. It will generate readers’ interest who can pick them up later, “said Prabhjot Sandhu, the librarian. “We have been celebrating June 18 to July 18 as the national reading month under the reading mission announced by the Centre government. So, we have been hosting a lot of activities to create awareness regarding public libraries and reading culture. The exhibition is an attempt to reach out to young readers,” he added. While interacting with readers after the inauguration, ADC Ravinder Singh said public libraries would be promoted as centres of learning and community bonding rather than just storage houses for books.
