Staff protest cripples bus service

Bus conductors and security guards participated in the protest and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC). The bus service has been halted since last evening. Harbans Singh, in charge of the metro bus service, said, “The drivers have got the salaries, but there is some delay in case of other employees. Harjot Singh, one of the bus conductors, said, “We have been waiting for salary for three months. The company will resolve the issue soon.” It is worth mentioning here that the metro bus service was disrupted for five days last month as the company did not pay the bills of fuel to Roadways last month.

Protesters say didn’t get salary for three months; firm says will release soon Amritsar, July 19 Employees of the metro bus services staged a protest over the non-payment of their salaries here today. They said they didn’t get their salaries for the past three months. Bus conductors and security guards participated in the protest and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC). The bus service has been halted since last evening. The protesters gathered at the BRTS stoppage near the railway station to demonstrate. Harjot Singh, one of the bus conductors, said, “We have been waiting for salary for three months. Despite repeated requests, the management didn’t fulfil our demands. They threaten to terminate our services for demanding salary.” The protesters said the government spent Rs 5,500 crore on the project but did not constructed toilets at bus stops. “Where should bus drivers, conductors, computer operators and security guards go to attend the nature’s call. Woman employees are the worst sufferers. Even potable water is not available,” they said. They said the government should takeover the project from private firm. Harbans Singh, in charge of the metro bus service, said, “The drivers have got the salaries, but there is some delay in case of other employees. The company will resolve the issue soon.” It is worth mentioning here that the metro bus service was disrupted for five days last month as the company did not pay the bills of fuel to Roadways last month. Due to the lukewarm response from the residents, the company is unable to pay its expenses.
