Pakistan Punjab legislators oppose shifting of Baba Nanak varsity

AMRITSAR: Legislators from the Punjab provincial assembly of Pakistan have lashed out at the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) chairman for shifting the venue of Baba Guru Nanak International University (BGNIU), first to Muridke and then to Islamabad. "But, unfortunately the ETPB chief issued a notice on June 12 to shift the university to Muridke," he said.Earlier talking to TOI, the ETPB chief had said that the university would be set up at Islamabad and would have a campus in Murdike. About 12 years ago, the Sikh community from the UK and the USA had approached the Pakistan government seeking permission to construct an international university in the name of Baba Guru Nanak in 25 acres of land at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib.

AMRITSAR: Legislators from the Punjab provincial assembly of Pakistan have lashed out at the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) chairman for shifting the venue of Baba Guru Nanak International University (BGNIU), first to Muridke and then to Islamabad. Taking note of their displeasure, the Pakistan human rights minister has assured the assembly to set up the university at Nankana Sahib The issue had recently rocked the Punjab assembly after Pakistan Muslim League ( Nawaz ) leader Rana Jamial Hassan Khan questioned why the ETPB chief Siddiq-ul-Farooq had shifted the venue from its original place. About 12 years ago, the Sikh community from the UK and the USA had approached the Pakistan government seeking permission to construct an international university in the name of Baba Guru Nanak in 25 acres of land at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib. Sikh leaders Pritpal Singh and Ganga Singh had also assured to contribute the required funds for the purpose and a camp office was set up at Na nakna Sahib," said Khan in the assembly , adding that Co lonel Izhar-ul-Haq was assig ned the task to manage the project.The entire Nankana Sa hib was happy to have an international standard university as it would have brought much-needed development, especially when the Pakistan government did not have to spend anything towards it, added Khan."But, unfortunately the ETPB chief issued a notice on June 12 to shift the university to Muridke," he said.Earlier talking to TOI, the ETPB chief had said that the university would be set up at Islamabad and would have a campus in Murdike.
