BATALA: Batala police nabbed an ex-serviceman and recovered one AK 47 rifle and live cartridges from his possession.While talking to media persons here on Tuesday Inspector General, Border Range Surinderpal Singh Parmar informed that police arrested an ex serviceman Gurpreet Singh who had managed to procure AK 47 rifle from 'someone' in Doda in Jammu and Kashmir adding that police had also recovered magazine, 23 live cartridges and a motorcycle from his possession.The preliminary investigations revealed that Gurpreet, resident of Jaura Singha falling under police station Qila lal Singh, along with John Masih, resident of Johal Nangal , used to extort money on gunpoint from truckers on Amritsar-Pathankot road besides both of them had been involved in snatching incidents too.Gurpreet had served for fifteen years in 74 Armed Regiment(26 Infantry DIBS) and was attached with 8 RR before retiring on February 28th 2014 from Patiala Both of them were arrested on a secret information shared by Ghaniae kae Bangar police which had registered a case under section n 379B, 212, 216 of IPC and 25,54,59 Arms Act against them.Parmar informed that Gurpreet had confessed that he had procured the weapon from 'someone' in Doda after his retirement.
