Anganwari workers go on nine-day strike

On the first day of their strike, they observed a mass chain hunger strike under the banner of the Kul Hind Anganwari Mulazam Workers Union at local MLA Dr Dharamveer Agnihotri’s office. The strike by the anganwari workers started in the morning and continued till the evening. Anoop Kaur Balehar, district president of the organisation, flayed the state government’s move to give admission to children less than the age of six years to schools. The main gate of the MLA’s office was blocked by the agitating workers.

On the first day of their strike, they observed a mass chain hunger strike under the banner of the Kul Hind Anganwari Mulazam Workers Union at local MLA Dr Dharamveer Agnihotri’s office. Anoop Kaur Balehar, district president of the organisation, flayed the state government’s move to give admission to children less than the age of six years to schools. She said the move of the government would lead to the closure of anganwari centers. Balehar said the objective of the move was to make them unemployed. She added that the government which had promised the residents of the state to provide jobs was making 54,000 families of the anganwadi workers and helpers jobless. The strike by the anganwari workers started in the morning and continued till the evening. The workers raised slogans against the state government. The main gate of the MLA’s office was blocked by the agitating workers.
