If there is a breakdown in the system due to pipeline burst or valve leakage, the residents have to wait for wait a week to get the supply restored. Every now and then, the water supplied to the residential areas is turbid.Owing to this situation, many families have to plan their schedule according to the water supply timing. "We have to collect and store the drinking water in containers to sustain for another three or four days until the we receive the next water supply. If by chance we happen to miss the timing, we are doomed," Rashmi Ambhore, a resident of N-6 Cidco, says. The poor water management by the civic body also forces the residents to spend extra on electricity to run motors to pump the water.Despite the irregular water supply, the AMC is charging Rs 4,050 for the year 2017-18 towards water tax, which is much higher than other municipal bodies in the state. The activists have therefore demanded that the AMC should start daily water supply at the annual water rate of Rs 1,800 and the residents in areas where water is supplied through tankers should be charged Rs 180 per month. The activists, including members of different political parties and other independent civic activists, include Gaffar Qadri, Rahul Ingle, Vishnu Pungle and Vishal Lahot, have formed a dedicated committee to push for their demands by the name Samanvay Sangarsh Samiti. The committee will hold a dharna at AMC office on March 6.
