Buglars target homes as residents flee in fear

CLEARED SKHER/seen/akAhmednagar: At least two houses in the Shahunagar area of Kedgaon in Ahmednagar where two Sena leaders were murdered earlier this month have been burgled in the past three days.Many residents of the area had left their homes in fear following the killings, giving an opportunity to criminals to such residences and steal valuables. One of the houses targeted by the thieves is barely five feet from the murder spot.The thefts came to light after some of the residents who had fled from the area returned. The entire picture of the number of houses targeted by thieves during the past week will become clear only after all the residents return, said police on Monday.Sources said some residents have not reported thefts at their houses fearing that police may ask them about the two murders.Ahmednagar superintendent of police Ranjan Kumar Sharma said, “We have learnt about the thefts at the deserted houses in the Shahunagar area. I think the victims are reluctant to lodge complaints. Our teams visited the spots for collecting details.”Sharma said the possibility of some locals having a hand in the thefts cannot be ruled out. “Considering the frequent visits of police for various reasons to Shahunagar, the possibility of professional thieves and burglars committing offences is negligible.
