In spite of repetitive attempts, Shrivastav could not be reached for his comment on the issue. In an attempt to control the mob, the city police resorted to use of force, during which some of them were caught pelting stones on CCTV cameras. The trucks were heading to Appawadi, a place about six kilometre from Mitmita. However, some of the residents felt that the garbage was being dumped in their area, to which they strongly opposed and started pelting stones at the vehicles. SLUG: MITMITA VIOLENCEAurangabad: A month after chief minister Devendra Fadanvis announced a high-level probe into the Mitmita violence, the probe is yet to begin.Citing use of excess force by the police in handling of Mitmita violence that broke out on March 7, Fadanvis during the assembly session on March 15 announced sending Aurangabad commissioner of police Yashasvi Yadav on forced leave of 30 days and ordered a probe by a two-member committee comprising additional chief secretary (home) Sudhir Shrivastav and DGP Satish Mathur. The 30-day-long forced leave period came to an end on Sunday and the residents of Mitmita are still wondering about the announcement made by the chief minister. In spite of repetitive attempts, Shrivastav could not be reached for his comment on the issue. However, Mathur said, “The probe into the Mitmita violence would begin soon.”When asked if Yadav is likely to resume office as he has already completed 30 days of forced leave, Mathur said: “I don’t think so.”The analysis of the unprecedented violence in Mitmita that costed civic chief DM Mugalikar as well as the city police chief their respective posts brought to the fore that neither the civic body nor police communicated with the residents about the trucks carrying garbage.
