Police custody of NCP MLA, others extended

CLEARED SKHER/seen/akAurangabad: A local court in Ahmednagar on Monday extended the police custody of five suspects, including MLA Sangram Jagtap, who have been arrested on the charges of killing two Shiv Sena leaders at Kedgaon of Ahmednagar district on April 7.Besides the MLA, the court extended the police remand of Jagtap, Babasaheb Kotkar and Bhanudas Kotkar till Wednesday. Girhe is a resident of the same locality,” said an officer.Ahmednagar superintendent of police Ranjan Kumar Sharma said, “There is definitely something that the arrested suspects are trying to hide. “They have admitted that they were at the spot at the time of the murder, but said that they were not involved in the crime. We are gathering technical evidence to bring more clarity to the case.” They said that they reached the spot after seeing a crowd there.

The custody of Sandeep Gunjal and Babasaheb Kedar has been extended till Saturday.The other two suspects, Sandeep Girhe and Mahavir alias Pappu Mokle, who were arrested in the early hours of Saturday, are already in police custody till April 19.Within hours of the twin murders, Gunjal had surrendered before the Parner police station and said that he had committed the crime single handedly.Later, Gunjal claimed that he committed the murders with the help of Girhe, Mokle and one more unidentified person whose identity has not been revealed by police.Gunjal had claimed that the country-made revolver he had shot the two Sena leaders with was sold to him about a year ago. Following that revelation, Kedar was arrested from his house on the night of April 11.An officer with the local crime branch said that Girhe and Pappu have claimed that they were not involved in the murders. “They have admitted that they were at the spot at the time of the murder, but said that they were not involved in the crime. They said that they reached the spot after seeing a crowd there.
