Annual maintenance contracts for government hospitals approved

Aurangabad: After a hiatus of one year, the long-pending repair work at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH) and Government Cancer Hospital is expected to be undertaken following the approval of their annual maintenance contracts (AMCs).On April 9, the TOI had reported that the repair work was not conducted at the GMCH due to delay in approving the annual contract. According to public works department (PWD) executive engineer SS Bhagat, until last year the repair and maintenance work at these health facilities along with all the government buildings were conducted based on demand.“We used to respond to the calls of the government staff regarding their building and construction requirements. This year onwards works will be done under the annual maintenance contract,” he said.However, GMCH medical superintendent Bharat Sonawane informed that repeated requests for the repair work at the hospital were not responded by the PWD last year. To this Bhagat said they were running short of funds.“There were several issues under job-wise maintenance. The petty contractors used to reap maximum benefits and sometimes leave the work incomplete or untouched. For Cancer Hospital, the contract is worth around Rs 17 lakh and the work order has been released.Ashok Jaiswal, who has bagged the annual maintenance contract of GMCH, confirmed that he received the work order on Monday and the works are being undertaken as asked by the medical superintendent. High Tech Infra, the contractor at Cancer hospital also confirmed to have received the work order.Meanwhile, Bhagat categorically pointed out that the repair work will be prioritised as per their exigency and urgent jobs such as plumping, leakage, falling plaster and drainage clog will be undertaken first, while work like colouring and tile fitting will be done later.
