Resolve water crisis in 3 days: Mayor

DoneAurangabad: Mayor Nandkumar Ghodele on Monday directed water department officials to seek 7 MLD water from the MIDC instead of 5 MLD to deal with the crisis currently being faced by the Cidco residents.He also directed the authorities concerned to ensure the situation is improved within three days. The water tanks also received lesser quantity due to diversion of the water meant for Cidco to Shivajinagar and Pundliknagar area, the corporators alleged.Ghodele questioned the administration that when the city gets 135 MLD of water from Jayakwadi and the water works department supplies water every three to six days, where does the water go.While suggesting that water works department should opt for water audit for the water being supplied to different areas, the mayor asked, “When the city gets enough water why the residents are subjected to face water shortage?”The corporators also questioned when new bulk water connections are not being given, where is the water that the city gets from Jayakwadi going. The meeting began with corporators questioning the motive behind erratic water supply.Corporators from Cidco area also alleged that some wards were getting contaminated and erratic water supply. During the general body meeting on Monday, corporators cutting across party lines took the civic administration to task over the prevailing water crisis. Some blamed the civic officials of creating an artificial scarcity to pave way for a private company to take over the supply system.Corporators from Cidco and Shivajinagar areas also clashed on the issue of Cidco area getting irregular water supply.

They also pointed out the recent discussions about possibility of roping in the water utility company that the civic body had itself thrown out in 2016.The water department engineers, including executive engineer Sartaj Singh Chahal and his deputy, tried to explain the situation and distribution system, but the corporators insisted on effective implementation.Meanwhile, in-charge collector Naval Kishor Ram, who was handling the charge of municipal commissioner, received the report of his transfer to Pune while the general body meeting was in progress. Hence, he subsequently left the meeting.
