Students should strive to get knowledge first and success in examination is merely a by-product,” Chopade said.The VC said that family members of students have to play a crucial role in developing proper mindset of students while dealing with academic challenges.Holding regular meetings with parents will ensure a proper dialogue between students and parents and college authorities. “We appeal to colleges to respond to our initiative wholeheartedly to save youth from going astray,” Chopade said.Notably, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), in 2014, had asked all affiliated colleges to set up similar forums for carrying out counselling of students so as to keep them away from negative emotions.“It is painful to see students committing suicide after being caught indulged in unethical practices during examination. Aurangabad: Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) has asked all its affiliated colleges to set up special counselling cells for the benefit of students.Vice-chancellor B A Chopade on Tuesday issued special directives to this effect to colleges, which have been also asked to hold meetings with parents on a regular basis.The move, which has been taken in the wake of incidents of students taking extreme steps while caught cheating during exams, has been widely appreciated by stakeholders.The special counselling cells in colleges will act as platforms for creating positive mindset among students while facing examinations and performing other academic activities. While academic excellence of students is common goal for parents as well as colleges, both parties must inculcate proper attitude among youth while achieving the same smoothly, Chopade said.It may be also be noted that the State Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has also recently issued special directives to colleges offering professional courses for roping in experts for delivering talks to students to develop positive frame of mind while coping with stress.
