Cloudy skies prevail but Aurangabad only gets light rain

Aurangabad district as a whole has received hardly 19mm rainfall so far, which accounts for only 14 per cent of the expected rainfall. At 22.8 C, the minimum temperature was well in keeping with the normal range. While the rainfall had tempted farmers to undertake sowing, the current dry spell has proved to be a roadblock in traditional farming activity in the region. AURANGABAD: Rainfall-deficient Aurangabad has little hope of overcoming monsoon deficit just yet as the met department has predicted presence of only cloudy skies with chances of intermittent light rain over the city and nearby areas in the next 48 to 72 hours.On Sunday morning, the city received a brief spell of rain, followed by overcast conditions throughout the day. The morning drizzle, however, helped reduce the temperature appreciably, offering a respite to citizens.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Aurangabad recorded a maximum temperature of 31.7 C, which was lower by 2 C as compared to the normal range.

While the relative humidity level was much higher 80 per cent by 8.30am, subsequent showers brought the figure down to 66 per cent by evening.As announced by IMD, no revival of monsoon is likely in Aurangabad before June 21 and thereafter there are chances of moderate rain. Aurangabad district as a whole has received hardly 19mm rainfall so far, which accounts for only 14 per cent of the expected rainfall. While other districts from Marathwada have recorded excess rainfall, Aurangabad has reported only eight rainy days since June 1, as per data available with the State Agriculture department.The current lull in rainfall has been observed across the region with no major showers reported from any of the eight districts in Marathwada. While the rainfall had tempted farmers to undertake sowing, the current dry spell has proved to be a roadblock in traditional farming activity in the region.
