Strict action against illegal hoardings on the cards

“The police would promptly act on any complaint regarding illegal hoardings or could initiate a suo motu action. The concerned department heads too have been assigned the job to remove such hoardings in their vicinity. For instance, if unauthorised hoardings are found on the PWD properties, the officials concerned should remove them. Aurangabad: The city police, municipal corporation and the district administration have decided to get tough with unauthorized hoardings, banners and posters that have cropped up across the city, including the main thoroughfares. The drive for making the city clean of garbage would continue simultaneously.Prasad said the residents, too, should exercise self-control in such issues.

Aurangabad: The city police, municipal corporation and the district administration have decided to get tough with unauthorized hoardings, banners and posters that have cropped up across the city, including the main thoroughfares. While the city has 450 authorized hoardings, hundreds of others have cropped up at different places, including the roof tops of residential buildings, which the authorities feel amounts to defacement of the city.Speaking to newsmen, commissioner of police Chiranjeev Prasad, municipal commissioner Nipun Vinayak and district collector Uday Chaudhari said that they would request the people behind the unauthorized hoardings, banners and posters to remove them on their own within 15 days.Otherwise, the authorities would launch a drive to remove them and would take action against those who who failed to remove them on their own. They drive would be conducted jointly by police, civic body and the district administration.When asked about the timing of the drive as the law in this respect is already in place, specially in the wake of the city’s garbage issue, the municipal commissioner said the garbage crisis still persists and the civic body was making all efforts to correct the situation.Vinayak also said that since hoardings, banners and posters are adding to the defacement of the city, they have decided to launched the drive. Similarly, the civic body and other government agency heads were also expected to take action accordingly.”The officials were speaking to newsmen after a meeting on the issue with the representatives of advertising agencies and officials from different departments.On temporary hoardings, that usually are installed during the birth or death anniversaries of national leaders or during festivals, the authorities said a list of rules was being prepared in this regard and it would be made public soon.
