Doctors spend time with special needs children

Aurangabad: The Aurangabad Academy of Paediatric Doctors joined hands with the Vihang Special School to spend time with the students to mark doctors day.The children and doctors participated in activities such as wall painting, planting saplings. They even played games.Explaining the concept behind the event, the organizer and the head of Vihang Special School, Aditi Shardul, said, “ Children with special needs are closely associated with their doctors as they become an indispensable part of their life due to their medical condition. Taking this theme forward, the school held the event so that the doctors got to spend time with the children.”One doctor assisted a child in painting the wall. The doctors interacted in various ways with the children. After wall painting, the doctors and students planted seeds, which made them closely work with soil.Vihang Vaidya, a young student was felicitated for his achievement in academics by one of the students Samrat Naymane.

It is therefore important that the two have a cordial relationship. Taking this theme forward, the school held the event so that the doctors got to spend time with the children.”One doctor assisted a child in painting the wall. The doctors interacted in various ways with the children. The students asked them their choice of colour or the figure they wanted them to draw. After wall painting, the doctors and students planted seeds, which made them closely work with soil.Vihang Vaidya, a young student was felicitated for his achievement in academics by one of the students Samrat Naymane. Samrat’s disability makes it difficult for him to walk, but after therapy the child could walk all the way to felicitate Vihang. Mohit Marathe, who has 80% intellectual impairment and who recently cleared his Class III language and environmental science exam gave Vihang a book. Vishal Shelke, a visually impaired child delivered a speech and expressed his willingness to succeed like Vihang.The doctors who tooke part in the event included Renu Boralkar, Manjusha Sherkar, Smita Kulkarni, Varsha Vaidya among others. These interactions and discussions with the children provided a new perspective to the doctors.Shardul said, “They gave us feedback about their interaction and the overall event which has helped in understanding the children better and improve the doctor-patient relationship.”
