Govt pleaders to hone skills as specialists

Aurangabad: The government pleaders office at the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court has decided to hone the skills of its assistant government pleaders in the subjects they are already good at. Due this practice, there have been numerous cases that had resulted in acquittal in the lower courts, have been overturned into convictions by the HC.” As a result, they are receiving good judgments and the pendency of the cases has also reduced.“Attempts are being made to hone the skills of our AGPs and we are establishing a tradition of experts contesting on behalf of the state and its various departments. “This has started speeding up the process at the court,” he said.Echoing Joshi, AGP Sachin Salgare said, “The chance to contest similar types of cases has brought about drastic rise in the results. But the office is also flexible with the AGPs keen on trying their hands on a variety of subjects.Assistant government pleader Swapnil Joshi said they are not only being trained, but are also supervised and guided in contesting the cases.

In addition, they are being allotted cases according to their expertise to improve conviction.The government pleaders office at HC is also breaking away with the tradition of shuffling the AGPs from the cases they are handling, every three months.Government pleader at HC, Amarjitsingh Girase, told TOI they had started identifying the expertise of the AGPs and accordingly started allotting the type of cases they contest. As a result, they are receiving good judgments and the pendency of the cases has also reduced.“Attempts are being made to hone the skills of our AGPs and we are establishing a tradition of experts contesting on behalf of the state and its various departments. As a policy matter, we have decided not to shift the performing AGPs from their expert subjects,” said Girase, who is the GP since 2013.Out of the 51 AGPs serving here, those good with criminal matters are being allotted such cases, similarly those good at service matters, civil, land acquisition are being allotted the cases accordingly.
