Aurangabad: Gurgaon-based Feedback Foundation — working for city’s solid waste management — has pitched a unique project of Sanitation Park in ward 19 (Aref Colony) to the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).The proposed project will be set up with a one-time support from the civic body and will thereafter be run by the local community. The agency has initiated a similar project in Haryana's Jind.AMC commissioner Nipun Vinayak and local corporator Zameer Quadri have expressed positivity towards the idea. The foundation is working in zone 1, 2 and 4 of the city for the last 15 days to bring behavioural change in community and attract their participation for solid waste management. These mentioned zones have registered poor levels of segregation of waste at source thereby causing major waste management issues for the AMC.Subsequently, the foundation has been appointed by the AMC to increase segregation of waste at source.Ajay Sinha, CEO of the foundation, told TOI on Tuesday that on the lines of its project in Jind, Aurangabad city can have a community-run sanitary park.“According to the project, the ward will be divided into 13 clusters. Each cluster will have sub-committees of 7-9 resident members each and a president. The presidents of the sub-committee will form a ward-level committee, the president of which will by default be the corporator. These committees will be responsible in ensuring that segregated waste is collected from door-to-door collection,” Sinha said.According to AMC commissioner Nipun Vinayak, the concept of Sanitation Park will be beneficial as it is based on the idea of No Open Waste (NOW). ““Unlike other waste management facilities, this sanitation park would not have flies or stink or ugly look. But it would be organised and hygienic, and can be visited by anyone at any time,” Sinha said.“The foundation has discussed the project with the resident and local leaders and they have displayed immense interest and readiness to participate in the project,” he added. When asked about the success of the project, Sinha said that the project will have to be tried and tested as it is new to Aurangabad.“However, if it becomes successful, Maharashtra will have a model project to look up to,” he added.
