MLA pushes for generic medicine store at GMCH

With the availability of funds, the medicine shortage will be addressed soon,” Save said.The Jan Aushadhi Kendras run by the department of pharmaceuticals, Government of India, make quality medicines available at affordable prices through exclusive outlets — Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras — to bring down healthcare expenditure. The patients, who are from economically poor background, are often compelled to spend money from their own pockets to buy drugs, vaccines and medicinal supplies from private pharmacies.Though this problem has plagued the government hospital for far too long, the state government’s directive of 2017 to procure medicines only from Haffkine Institute has added to the trouble.As per sources from the hospital, the hospital is yet to receive any funds for the drug procurement.When asked about it, Save said he has given a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, the medical education minister and the minister of civil supplies and consumer protection, food and drugs administration to make funds available for the drug procurement for the GMCH.“Drug procurement procedure through Haffkine is in its final stages.
