Aurangabad: Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided that wards already getting good water supply will be the first to benefit from the supply with two-day gap. Deputy engineer Sartaj Singh Chahal of the water works department said that once the plan is successful in these wards, it would be extended to other wards. The plan was put into practise in some wards on Saturday.Wards severely affected by poor supply will remain far from the benefit. Earlier, the municipal commissioner directed the water works department to start water supply with two-day gap in all wards.The AMC declaration that water supply would happen after a gap of two days brought cheers in Cidco, Hudco, Mukundwadi, Chikalthana and old city areas, which now receive supply after three days – that is, if they got water supply on July 1, they could expect the next supply on July 5. What this means is that they receive water in effect once in five days.With the duration of water supply limited and irregular supply timings, households have been hard hit. Residents were thus relieved to hear that the gap in supply would be reduced.However, AMC has picked wards of different office bearers to initiate the plan. The scheme will be initiated in the city in a phase-wise manner, and wards of the mayor, house leader, chairman of the standing committee and former house leader have been chosen to begin the fresh supply schedule. These are wards that already receive sufficient water supply as they are connected to the main line which supplies water for several hours. Supply started under the new plan in these wards on Saturday.Affected wards that received water supply only for 45 minutes will not find much relief in the new plan as the duration of supply has been cut by 10 minutes.
