Aurangabad: A city-based NGO Jansahyog Sevabhavi Sanstha, private companies, students and other individuals took part in a tree plantation initiative held at Padegaon on Sunday morning, as part of the state government’s 13 crore tree plantation drive.The Project Amazon Aurangabad 2018 kick-started with 2 ,000 trees being planted at the event. A total of 25,000 trees are scheduled to be planted under the project from July 15 till August 30.Around 200 people participated in Sunday’s drive at Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar Sheep and Goat Farm in Padegaon which is in the outskirts of the city. The species of trees planted included various indigenous varieties.Speaking at the event, Prashant Gire, the president of the NGO said the organization aims to plant 25 lakh trees in the next eight years in the Aurangabad district. ‘We will undertake the plantation in cooperation with the greenhouses and will ensure the survival of the plants with constant efforts,” Gire said.Sandeep Gire, an entrepreneur, Pradeep Yadav, Sandeep Jagdhane, Ashok Yadav, the employees of 24X7 Pest Management Services and others offered their support and manual labour to plant and water the saplings at the location. The students of Milind College of Science, NCC cadets of 50 Maharashtrian Battalion also took the efforts to make the drive successful.The project joins the league of several other public-private partnerships undertaken in Marathwada for making the drought-prone region greener.
