Aurangabad: The brother of 2012 murder victim Shruti Bhagwat filed an affidavit before the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court claiming that probe agencies are trying to shield the murderers.The 47-year old woman was brutally murdered in her flat and her body was found charred in the intervening night of April 17 and 18 of 2012.Mukul Karandikar, in an affidavit before the HC, has demanded a CBI probe. He said the CID received one letter from a person who divulged that a now-retired inspector of local police and two constables of the city police were acquainted with the man who committed the murder. The alleged murderer committed suicide within a week of the murder.The affidavit states that CID officials interrogated the letter writer to ascertain the source of his information. However, police had not attempted to call the inspector named in the letter. Police, however, did find consonance between the claims in the letter, the affidavit says. Call detail records also showed that the constables and the man who committed suicide were in touch. All three police personnel are named in Karandikar’s affidavit.Lawyer Abhaysinh Bhosale said, “There was a receipt found at the crime scene. It belonged to the second constable... Initially he claimed the receipt fell on the spot while he carried out the panchanama; in the written statement he said while documents were in his custody, he mistakenly put it in the bag containing case-related documents.”“I have no doubt now that the department, whether police or CID has destroyed the evidence as police were the only ones who were at the spot when the incident took place and now CID is sheltering the police department and they are sheltering the culprit/criminal,” the affidavit states.
