Revival of monsoon brings fresh hope to parched areas

Aurangabad: The eight districts of Marathwada, including Aurangabad, continued to receive heavy rainfall on Tuesday.As far as Aurangabad district is concerned, tehsil limits of Aurangabad, Paithan, Gangapur and Khultabad recorded considerable amount of rain. Meanwhile, Aurangabad continued to observe significant drop of around 5 degrees celsius in maximum temperature as compared to normal with the city recording 25.2 degrees celsius temperature on Tuesday. Among other districts of Marathwada, Parbhani reported 30mm of rain, Hingoli 20mm, Nanded 18mm, Osmanabad 16mm, Jalna 15mm, Beed 15mm and Latur 12mm.Barring Aurangabad, Jalna and Beed, remaining five districts — Hingoli ( 133%), Nanded (127%), Latur (125%), Osmanabad (109%) and Parbhani (107%) — have been showing surplus rainfall in Marathwada.Aurangabad has rainfall deficit of around 28% whereas Jalna and Beed has deficit of 15% and 11%, respectively. The district, comprising nine talukas, has so far registered an average of 162mm rainfall — accounting for nearly 72% of expected showers and 24 % of seasonal rain received between June and October.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has, however, forecast no further heavy rainfall with chances of only light rain likely in and around Aurangabad during the next 48 hours.Chikalthana (55mm), Osmanpura (46mm), Kanchanwadi (42mm) and Harsul (40 mm) were among the areas that reported good rainfall in the past 24 hours. The revival of monsoon has brought cheers for many, including farmers who either have undertaken sowing or planning to do the same for the ongoing Kharif season.The rain could also bring down the dependency on water tankers in parts of Aurangabad district that was receiving nearly 440 tankers every day.“While the region as a whole received an average 17mm of rainfall, some areas received medium to heavy showers with around seven circles reporting over 65mm showers,” an official data said.Vasarani (83mm) and Limbgaon (80mm) from Nanded district and Pathri (79mm), Purna (78mm) and Manvat (68mm) circles from Parbhani district reported heavy rainfall.
